Day 7 - Lab work

Combined work and pleasure today.

I was doing some DNA extractions from mouse tissues and decided to document a little bit of the process. This shot shows 2 ml locking tubes which contain different tissue samples, a couple of buffers, and stainless steel beads (for mechanical maceration of the tissues). The tubes are topped with caps to keep them from popping open during incubation and placed in a floating tube rack for placement in a hot water bath.

The shot was done with a gorilla pod tripod set on a box to look down on the rack. The light was available fluorescent although I would have liked to have set some strobes. I shot in aperture priority at f22 and voila.

In post I did a little bit of curves adjustment and then went for posterize. The reason I decided to posterize goes back to not being able to set my lights. Because these were samples for an actual experiment, I couldn't afford to waste time setting lights and risk losing my samples. The posterize provides a cool contrast in some of those very harsh neons from the tube caps.
